Kyongbuk Gong palace, Korea

If someone were to ask me to think up a word to sum up my first trip to korea, i will have to say that that word is ' A-M-A-Z-I-N-G'. It just kept popping up in my head during this trip.
First, it came up when i found myself breathlessly enchanted by the glorious surroundings; the most beautiful scenery with misty high mountains in the background and a historic imperial palace in the foreground. I was sooo wowed that i found myself mouthing "GOD its AMAZING" over and over again. You might think i'm exaggerating. But i kid you not.
I am not deluded and am neither entertained by simple pleasures. I am harder to please i assure you that. I mean i have seen lots of cool stuff on my trips but this one blows my mind.
Excursion day,I arrived early, successfully forcing myself out of bed and bearing sufference from the lack of sufficient rest after an ardous work trip, expecting to find a queue like any usual tourist attractions. But not only did i not find any tourists queue, there was no one at all and the sights greeted my eyes with a surprising twist. Turns out, there was going to be a imperial guard changing ceremony and there werent that many spectators to watch. There were Drummers, Imperial musicians and an army of some 80 guards dressed authentically in feudal imperial dress marching to the sound of the traditional marching music made by those musicians. I was immersed in the moment, i felt like i was in the middle of a movie , just me, and the guards, transported back in time, to the days of yore. No pictures could capture that moment of magic , that moment when felt like an alien in a predominantly foreign environment.
Nothing can be more exotic than that! i was saying ' wow its amazing' repeatedly like a maniac.

Here are some scenes of the marching. Notice the background, there was hardly a soul. and i was in the midst of all the marching! How exclusive huh! When u least expect these moments they occur in the most surprising ways, too bad i was all alone with on one to share it with then.
But i guess being alone worked the magic better. Still!

Can u imagine me, the awe-struck maniac snapping away at these guards? They looked so cool headed, so macho, so smart , so exotic! and in contrast i was the puffy-faced tourist barely awaken from my sleep, visibly excited and riding on the high of the moment. Well actually im not so important ,no one even notices me but the inner monolouge was playing in my head, punctuated ever so often with " wow"s and "AMAZIN-G-G"s.

These dudes sure look the part. I thought they were part of my dream. My dream of a deserted palace, I woke up to a deserted palace with marching guards.
